Sep 30, 2011 > Women
Patients occasionally experience pain or skin surface, either in the low abdominal area or on the vulva. This comfort is usually due to herpes if one the vulva or to shingles (herpes zoster) if one the low abdomen or vulva. Pain from these two problems is usually not difficult to diagnose and is not usually confused with the pelvic pain we will discuss in the next from question. Obviously, other skin problem can cause discomfort in the vulva area if the gynecologic is not sure what the problem is.

What causes low abdominal and pelvic pain?

Low abdominal and pelvic is problem for both patients and their doctors. It is not only difficult to diagnose, but it can also be just as difficult to treat. Many well qualified physicians believe that 50 percent of the pelvic pain that women experience is not due to physical abnormalities. The implication is that the pain is often psychological in origin. Although I do not doubt that same pelvic pain is due to emotions, my experience has beet that this is uncommon.

When pain is caused by emotion, the emotions after cause true physical pain that can be treat 9surh as irritable colon). When the physical pain is alleviated, a woman’s emotional problem can be evaluated and treated more easily. If a patient and her doctor purpose pain evaluation, the cause can almost always be found and treated. Some physical causes of this type of pain are discussed in the following question.

What causes pain on skin surface in the abdominal or vulvas areas #1What is Asthma Symptoms and Treatment
What is asthma? what is asthma symptoms and how treatment for asthma? When we talk about bronchial hyper-responsiveness, what we are saying is the following: If you take an individual without asthma and you challenge that individual with an asthma provoking substance, methacholine, you can see that no matter how much you increase methacholine, there is no major change in air flow. However, if the individual does have bronchial hyper-responsiveness, various degrees of methacholine can cause that air flow to drop 20%. And any drop will tell you the degree of responsiveness and it will then tell you the degree of severity of the disease. This is what we are talking about when we talk about bronchial hyper-responsiveness. From the point of view of what is bronchial hyper-responsiveness, regardless of the stimulus which is often not an allergy, a number of cells have turned on, which causes a disruption in the bronchial mucosa. It is this disruption that makes the airway hyper-reactive. Well, as I mentioned, despite the fact that you have some homogeneity about inflammation and some homogeneity about bronchial hyperactivity, there is a tremendous heterogeneity in symptoms. Fifteen to 20% will cough. Or they can cough and or wheeze and they can be short of breath, associated with chest tightness. So the disease can reflect itself in many different ways.

Sinusitis is an infection (usually bacterial) of one or more of the sinuses. It occurs more commonly in adults than in children. The sinuses are air-filled cavities located within the facial bone structure and connected to the nose. There are four major groups; frontal, ethmoidal, sphenoidal, and maxillary. The sinuses are lined with mucous membrane and are normally kept clear when mucus drains through them into the nasal passages. If they are obstructed, normal drainage cannot occur, and infection of the sinuses can result.

What causes pain on skin surface in the abdominal or vulvas areas #6Breast Cancer Treatment and Therapy Guidelines
What about the follow-up after our primary and adjuvant treatment for breast cancer? We know from many good signs that most of the recurrences are found by patients, second most by physicians and almost never by routine tests. Therefore, the official recommendations for follow-up of asymptomatic individuals after primary therapy is that they have history and physicals about every four to six months and that they have annual mammographies. There are no films, scans, tumor markers that are indicated in the follow-up of asymptomatic individuals. So, we usually suggest a history and physical every three to six months and an annual mammography. This is something that is continually under review. It might change, but today, all of the studies that have been done have never been able to show survival benefit for intensive screening with radiographic and blood testing as opposed to just clinical follow-up of these patients. Metastatic breast cancer. If breast cancer is found to have spread at the time of diagnosis or recurs later after local therapy, we have a situation which cannot be realistically considered to be a curable disease at this point. I think that is important. It is equally important however to recognize that the survival ratio with metastatic breast cancer is very, very variable. If you have metastatic lung cancer or inoperable pancreas cancer, most of these patients are dead in year. Certainly within 18 months. There is almost no survival at two years with a disease like that. Breast cancer is all over the board. The median survival from onset of metastases is probably on the order of two to three years but all of us have patients who have lived 10 years or more in very good physical condition after the development of metastatic disease. So, again looking at the clinical parameters of what the disease-free interval is, what sites are involved, whether the hormone receptors are positive, can help you project somewhat what is going to happen but is a situation with an extremely variable prognosis.
