Sep 05, 2011 > Diet
Are you looking for about bill clinton diet vegan plan? When Bill Clinton announced last year that he was dropping meat and dairy in favor of a plant-based diet, it immediately threw the spotlight on veganism and its associated health benefits.

"I'm trying to be one of those experimenters," said Clinton. "Since 1986, several hundred people who have tried essentially a plant-based diet, not ingesting any cholesterol from any source, has seen their bodies start to heal themselves - break up the arterial blockage, break up the calcium deposits around the heart. 82 percent of the people who have done this have had this result, so I want to see if I can be one of them."

Clinton says he was inspired to follow a low-fat, plant-based diet by several doctors, including Dean Ornish, author of Dr. Dean Ornish's Program for Reversing Heart Disease. Ornish has been working with Clinton as one of his consulting physicians since 1993.

After Clinton's angioplasty and stents in 2010, Ornish says he contacted the former president "and I indicated that the moderate diet and lifestyle changes he'd made didn't go far enough to prevent his heart disease from progressing, but our research proved that more intensive changes could actually reverse it," he says.

Clinton joins the company of other vegan politicians and celebrities, including Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich, "Biggest Loser" trainer Bob Harper, actress Olivia Wilde and even Twitter co-founder Biz Stone. Colorado Congressman Jared Polis -- while not a strict vegan or vegetarian -- keeps a meat product-free home with his vegan partner, Marlon Reis, Politico reported. And former Indiana Congressman Andrew Jacobs Jr. is a vegetarian, according to Vegetarian Times magazine.

Elizabeth Kucinich, wife of Rep. Dennis Kucinich, told Eating Well that her and her husband's vegan lifestyle is inspired by compassion for living things, sustainability and health.

He told Wolf Blitzer on CNN that although he eats a little fish, he stays away from other meat - dairy too. He's learned to like almond milk.

His reasoning? His surgically cleared coronary arteries began to re-clog, he said on the CNN program. It was then that he learned that heart patients who adopt a plant-based diet usually start getting better on their own.

"Their bodies begin to heal themselves," he said. "Well, since I needed to lose a little weight for Chelsea's wedding, I thought I'd be a part of the experiment and see if I could be one of those."

" I live on beans, legumes, vegetables, fruit. I drink a protein supplement every morning — no dairy, I drink almond milk mixed in with fruit and a protein powder so I get the protein for the day when I start the day up. I did all this research, and I saw that 82 percent of the people since 1986 who have gone on a plant-based, no dairy, no meat of any kind, no chicken, no turkey — I eat very little fish, once in a while I’ll have a little fish — if you can do it, 82 percent of people have begun to heal themselves."

Bill Clinton Diet Vegan Plan #1Treatment of heart failure due to systolic dysfunction
A. Treatment of the underlying cardiac disease Hypertension is the primary cause of HF in many patients. Angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, beta blockers, and angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) are the preferred antihypertensive agents because they improve survival in HF. Beta blockers can also provide anginal relief in ischemic heart disease and rate control in with atrial fibrillation. Renovascular disease. Testing for renovascular disease is indicated if there is severe or refractory hypertension, a sudden rise in blood pressure, or repeated episodes of flash pulmonary edema. Ischemic heart disease. Coronary atherosclerosis is the most common cause of cardiomyopathy, comprising 50 to 75 percent of patients with HF. a. All patients with documented ischemic heart disease should be treated medically for relief of angina and with risk factor reduction, such as control of serum lipids. b. Myocardial revascularization with angioplasty or bypass surgery may improve exercise capacity and prognosis in patients with hibernating myocardium. Revascularization should also be considered for repeated episodes of acute left ventricular dysfunction and flash pulmonary edema. Valvular disease is the primary cause of HF 10 to 12 percent. Other causes of heart failure: Alcohol abuse, cocaine abuse, obstructive sleep apnea, nutritional deficiencies, myocarditis, hemochromatosis, sarcoidosis, thyroid disease, and rheumatologic disorders such as systemic lupus erythematosus.
Bill Clinton Diet Vegan Plan #2Diverticulitis Diet Foods to Avoid
A low residue diet is one that consists of a daily intake of no more than 10 grams of fiber. While on this diet for an extended period of time it is recommended that a multi-vitamin or mineral supplement be taken daily. This ensures that minerals and vitamins lost while on the low residue diet are made by taking supplements. Until recently, many doctors suggested avoiding foods with small seeds because it was believed that particles could lodge in the diverticula and cause inflammation. However, this is now a controversial point and no evidence supports this recommendation. So the seeds in tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, strawberries and raspberries, as well as poppy seeds, which are part of your diverticulitis diet, are generally considered harmless.

Osteopathic medicine is a branch of the medical profession in the United States. Osteopathic physicians, known as DOs, are licensed to practice medicine and surgery in all 50 states and are recognized in forty-seven other countries, including most Canadian provinces. Frontier physician Andrew Taylor Still founded the profession as a radical rejection of the prevailing system of medical thought of the 19th century. Still's techniques relied heavily on the manipulation of joints and bones to diagnose and treat illness, and he called his practices "osteopathy". By the middle of the 20th century, the profession had moved closer to mainstream medicine, adopting modern public health and biomedical principles. American "osteopaths" became "osteopathic physicians", gradually achieving full practice rights as medical doctors in all 50 states, including serving in the US armed forces as physicians.

Are you looking for symptoms of meningitis in adults? Meningitis is inflammation of the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord, known collectively as the meninges. The inflammation may be caused by infection with viruses, bacteria, or other microorganisms, and less commonly by certain drugs. Meningitis can be life-threatening because of the inflammation's proximity to the brain and spinal cord; therefore the condition is classified as a medical emergency. Many of the bacteria and viruses that cause meningitis are fairly common and associated with other routine illnesses. Bacteria and viruses that infect the skin, urinary system, gastrointestinal or respiratory tract can spread by the bloodstream to the meninges through cerebrospinal fluid, the fluid that circulates in and around the spinal cord.
Bill Clinton Diet Vegan Plan #5Gout diet recipes
Gout, a painful form of arthritis, has long been associated with diet, particularly overindulgence in meat, seafood and alcohol. As a result, gout treatment used to include severe dietary restrictions, which made the gout diet hard to stick to. Fortunately, newer medications to treat gout have reduced the need for a strict gout diet. A gout diet reduces your intake of foods that are high in purines, which helps control your body's production of uric acid. If you're overweight or obese, lose weight. However, avoid fasting and rapid weight loss because these can promote a gout attack. Drink plenty of fluids to help flush uric acid from your body. Also avoid high-protein diets, which can cause you to produce too much uric acid (hyperuricemia).

Bill Clinton Diet Vegan Plan #10Other Drugs Of Concern
Drugs discussed in the following sections have been abused for many years. Unfortunately, some that had become less popular seem to be reappearing, along with a dangerous new generation of illicit drugs. Problems with any illegal drugs include "quality control". Because there is no federal regulation of these drugs and because people involved in transportation and distribution of illegal drugs are not always concerned with purity or quality, additives to any illegal drug may include dangerous and even poisonous substances. Also, it is frequently impossible to determine the potency of the drug. A very pure form of a drug can easily be lethal for an individual who has been using a form that has been "stepped on" and was less potent.
